Student's of the year awards 2023

2023 saw a very successful year for our clubs, new promotions to black belt, exceptional A pass results from each of the coloured belt area gradings, multiple world champions from the T-UK British Championships.

This made choosing the adult and junior students of the year very difficult.

In the end the Instructor team landed on the most deserving members. The criteria for the award is predicated on attendance, effort, attitude, overcoming challenges, taking on instruction and applying it, being a role model.

Black Belt Grading Success

The Taekwondo-UK Association black grading was held in Leamington Spa today under the Masters and senior expert grades of the Association. In the grading were eight Warwick & Leamington TKD club students testing for promotion.

After six hours of thorough and intense scrutiny I am pleased to be able to announce the following promotions:

Back Training Inside

Last night saw Warwick & Leamington TKD club back inside Everyones Active Warwick site, St Nicholas Park Leisure Centre.

After 2 months of conducting training sessions out in the park twice a week we returned to the leisure centres main sports hall delivering 2 classes. This is ideal timing as the club has a promotion grading test scheduled for the beginning of June so will allow a quality practice environment for the students.

Thursday nights are still being conducted out in the park however this gives the students a fantastic opportunity to practice their skills in a realistic environment wearing clothes and trainers on as they would be if they had to deal with a physical situation for real.

Face to Face Training Starting in the Park

With the C-19 landscape changing in a positive way we are very excited to be able to start up face to face classes from the 30th March ensuring safe social distancing.

These classes will be delivered in St Nicholas Park, Warwick behind the Astro turf pitches as we did last summer. Our classes are a great mix of adults and children training in the same class enabling families to train together at the same time.

Self-defence is at the heart of what we deliver. This is the ultimate goal, to give every member of the club a better chance of defending themselves if they are unfortunate enough to get into a physical confrontation. We deliver a syllabus that helps each student to prepare themselves for this.

Fight Club Goes to North Leamington Club

Tonight we took fight club on the road to North Leamington TKD club. Some students might find the thought of Fight Club intimidating, the aim of this session was to show that there’s nothing to be worried about.

After a thorough warm up and dynamic stretching session we went on to utilising games to practice and rehearse skills and attributes needed for ring craft and fitness. This was followed by learning and practicing the basic foundation set up techniques of sparring, front leg kicking techniques and then we explored technique options to keep momentum going to win points.

Taekwon Do tenets - do you now what they mean?!

As a collective before a class, gradings, competitions we all chant the oath and tenets of TKD.  But the question is do we know what they mean, do we live by them and adhere to them and not only when you see fit to do so but when its right to do so?!  The oath and tenets should be what sets us above people that don't train in martial arts, it is about being a better person.

To assist you here are some quotes to help you in this endeavour to understand them and apply them:
