This weekend our Instructors, blackbelts and senior coloured belts attended a seminar with Grand Master Boss 9th Degree and his son World Champion Timothy Boss.
An excellent seminar which covered technical improvement and delivery led by the Grand master and also sparring drills and strategy from Timothy.
A thoroughly enjoyable day of TKD. Warwick & Leamington TKD investing in our development and furthering our abilities to make the club the best it can be for our members.
We had the last training sessions of the year tonight and as always the presentation of the students of the year awards, one adult student and one junior student.
The winning students displayed attributes of leadership, excellent attitude, standards and commitment and are role models in the club to their peers.
Saturday we held our first Women’s only self-defence course since the pandemic hit. The course landed on the 6 month anniversary of the murder of Sarah Everard as well as the release of Colin Pitchfork the double rapist and murderer.
We started off with all participants and instructors undertaking a lateral flow test as close proximity in the physical delivery part of the class was necessary and everyones safety was paramount.
Our courses are not just about leaning the physical interventions and skills required in a violent incident we start by delivering a comprehensive and informative presentation educating the participants on the psychology of violent and sexual offenders. We looked at situational and environmental awareness and how to identify challenges and how to react for a positive outcome. Participants were encouraged to share their own experiences which brought to life the presentation content, this also allowed for discussion on strategies and solutions for similar experiences.
Last night saw Warwick & Leamington TKD club back inside Everyones Active Warwick site, St Nicholas Park Leisure Centre.
After 2 months of conducting training sessions out in the park twice a week we returned to the leisure centres main sports hall delivering 2 classes. This is ideal timing as the club has a promotion grading test scheduled for the beginning of June so will allow a quality practice environment for the students.
Thursday nights are still being conducted out in the park however this gives the students a fantastic opportunity to practice their skills in a realistic environment wearing clothes and trainers on as they would be if they had to deal with a physical situation for real.
Post training and award giving we held our club Christmas meal out which is traditionally a curry celebrating an awesome year with a fabulous group of people; this year was no different apart from holding it at Warwick Spice. Thank you to all the students and Instructors who were able to make it, a thoroughly enjoyable night.
(How many times can you spot Rachel Hoult?!)
This weekend saw the last coloured belt grading for the year held in Stratford under Master John Archer President of the T-UK Association.
The Warwick TKD students have been preparing hard for this grading ramping up the intensity at training leading up to it. This hard work and dedication showed in their performance with outstanding performances across the board.
Two members which i would like to highlight for their A passes are:
Also a big thank you to all the Instructors at the club who have also put their all into preparing the club for this grading.
Tonight saw our final Friday night club training session held at Warwick Space which has housed our Friday night classes for the last 5 years, a great community centre hall with an accommodating and a supportive management committee. Quite a sad night as I closed up tonight at the end of the class as we have been using it for so long and built up a great class of students in it.
So thank you Warwick Space, but great excitement as we move the class to the same venue as our Tuesday night classes at St Nicholas Park Leisure Centre run by Everyone Active cementing our relationship further with them at the Warwick prime location with plenty of free parking and much more space to train in.
At Warwick we had been training hard for the last 2 months getting every one conditioned and prepared for the competition, this paid off with some excellent results well done all of you representing the club and performing at such a high standard:
