Warwick student selected for football centre of excellence

Elsa Klegg from our Warwick club has recently been selected for a place at the FA Emerging Talent Centre for football, on top of playing for both Coventry City Girls and her school team. She will take a 6 month sabbatical from TKD to concentrate on her football.

This is no surprise as since Elsa joined the club 3 years ago has developed in to a very mature young lady who hasn’t always found Taekwon Do easy but has become a role model for other junior members.

Student's of the year awards 2023

2023 saw a very successful year for our clubs, new promotions to black belt, exceptional A pass results from each of the coloured belt area gradings, multiple world champions from the T-UK British Championships.

This made choosing the adult and junior students of the year very difficult.

In the end the Instructor team landed on the most deserving members. The criteria for the award is predicated on attendance, effort, attitude, overcoming challenges, taking on instruction and applying it, being a role model.

Back Training Inside

Last night saw Warwick & Leamington TKD club back inside Everyones Active Warwick site, St Nicholas Park Leisure Centre.

After 2 months of conducting training sessions out in the park twice a week we returned to the leisure centres main sports hall delivering 2 classes. This is ideal timing as the club has a promotion grading test scheduled for the beginning of June so will allow a quality practice environment for the students.

Thursday nights are still being conducted out in the park however this gives the students a fantastic opportunity to practice their skills in a realistic environment wearing clothes and trainers on as they would be if they had to deal with a physical situation for real.

New Post Lockdown Beginners Class

With the C-19 restrictions coming to an end and our ability to deliver face to face classes we have started a new beginners class. This consists of an adult class and a junior class delivering tailored progressive learning for all age groups and enabling parents and children to train at the same time.

This beginners class intake will come to an end next Tuesday as the last few places are taken with a waiting list put in place for when we are ready to take on the next intake of beginners in 2 months time.

We believe in delivering the best quality training. Producing progressive growth and development, enabling our members to learn an important life skill, to be able to defend themselves, which in turn improves self-confidence and self-esteem in a fun friendly, vibrant environment.

Assisting with mental health challenges

We get people starting martial arts for all sorts of reasons, general conditioning, fitness, weight loss, learn a new skill, socialisation but we also get people start for psychological reasons - self-confidence, self-esteem, anxiety, to cope with bullying; the martial arts are an excellent tool to assist these people.  Due to this sub set of people I have decided to post the below on further supporting these people as every little bit of assistance can help to enable them to cope and improve.

The inventions of apps means we now have mental health tools right in our pockets.  Keeping track of your mood, finding ways to cope and monitoring your mental processes are all activities that might sound like a slog, but the majesty of modern technology means they can be fun too.
