Student's of the year awards 2023

2023 saw a very successful year for our clubs, new promotions to black belt, exceptional A pass results from each of the coloured belt area gradings, multiple world champions from the T-UK British Championships.

This made choosing the adult and junior students of the year very difficult.

In the end the Instructor team landed on the most deserving members. The criteria for the award is predicated on attendance, effort, attitude, overcoming challenges, taking on instruction and applying it, being a role model.

Regional Black Belt Training Begins

Yesterday saw the first of the new regional black belt training sessions in the Central area bringing the 2 black belt clubs, Warwick and Stratford, together.  Mr Archer, Mr Noddings and Mr Dhillon delivering instruction in patterns, technical kicking and sparring. A good turn out considering it was still the Easter holidays, a great platform to work from and great to see the effort and enthusiasm from the participants.

The next session is planned for the 4th June in Warwick, get the date into your diaries.

Black Belt Success at the PUMA Championships

An excellent day for Warwick-TKD black belt club and T-UK at the PUMA Championships in Swindon today.  With 5 students competing we brought home 3 medals:

  • Lynda Parnell Gold in Patterns
  • Molly Rowe Bronze in Sparring
  • Jack Rowe Bronze in sparring

James Allen and Alex Cameron narrowly missing out on a medal with some excellent performances; well done all a credit to the club.  Bring on the coloured belt competition tomorrow.

Jump height training

In TKD we tend to test students at the higher grades doing jumping and flying destruction techniques.  To do these well you need to train specifically for it.  As well as a good base fitness level and muscular conditioning, particularly lower body, the method of doing this is through plyometric training incorporating short stretch shortening cycles.

The Central region including Warwick and Kineton clubs were well represented at todays T-UK England grading held at Stratford Upon Avon. The 2 clubs had an excellent day with success across the board. How to be a better leader

In light of the black belt grading coming up this weekend, I came across this article today which I feel has a massive relevance to black belts running a club, and students looking to develop themselves and open a club up.  It's not just about being able to perform techniques or deliver a class its about leading and leading by example.  Good quality leadership skills results in respect from peers and students, the willingness of those around you to go above and beyond, to give discretionary effort, and ultimatly growth in the club, both in respect of individual students as they are mentored by your actions and attitude and the growth of the club as a whole:
